About Erin Romero PhD

I began my career at Georgetown University, where I earned a degree in Finance with a minor in Psychology. After working as a consultant at Bain & Company, I felt drawn toward work that focused more directly on people’s emotional lives and well-being. This led me to transition into clinical psychology, where I later earned my doctorate from Northwestern University.

For the past 18 years, I have worked as a clinical psychologist within the Veterans Affairs system. My clinical work has focused primarily on trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), along with the ways anxiety, depression, and grief often emerge in the context of unresolved traumatic experiences.

Over time, my work expanded into leadership and training roles at both the local and national levels. I am a trainer and consultant in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and much of my career has been dedicated to increasing access to evidence-based trauma treatments that help people move beyond avoidance, self-blame, and feeling stuck in the past.

At the heart of my work is helping people understand how trauma affects the nervous system, memory, and the meaning we make of our experiences. I focus on how healing happens through structured, evidence-based approaches that support emotional processing and new learning.

Outside of my professional training, I also bring a human perspective into the therapy room. I am a mother, teacher, runner, animal lover, and someone who has experienced profound loss. I have also taken a nontraditional path in my own life, and I understand what it can feel like when life does not unfold the way you expected.

These experiences shape my perspective, but therapy is not about me. It is about understanding your story, how your experiences are showing up in your life today, and working together to help you move toward a greater sense of stability, clarity, and connection.
